The Best Technique to Stop Fear in its Tracks and Start Daring to Speak English

Leonilda Renaldo

Every project in life, whatever it is, has a starting point. You have to choose the right one, make good choices and take advantage of opportunities. And contrary to what one might think, this starting point does not necessarily have to direct you towards the final goal. In the beginning, it is more useful to focus on the mindset, because that is what will make the difference. So, find a way to stay focused every time, every day, all the time.

That’s where affirmations come in – short, energetic phrases that are a starting point on the road to change. They allow you to open the door to all that is possible. In essence, you are saying to your subconscious mind:

  1. “I take responsibility”.
  2. “I am getting better every day.
  3. “Improving my English is a source of pleasure. “

Every thought and word you speak is an affirmation. All of our self-talk, our internal dialogue, is a stream of affirmations. You are using affirmations at every moment, whether you know it or not. You are constantly shaping the world you live in.

Your current thoughts are habitual patterns that you learned in your childhood and through your experiences. Every time you are afraid to speak English, you say you want more fear in your interactions. Every time you feel inferior, you are saying that you want to continue to feel inferior. Do you want to be relevant and convincing in your next presentation? The predictions of your well-meaning high school teacher, professor at uni or even your parents or the job you didn’t get because of your English level all amount to: “you won’t have an international career, your English is awful” or “languages are not the strong points in this family”.

Some people say that affirmations “don’t work” (which is an affirmation, by the way). They might say, “I’m speaking positively,” but then think, “That’s stupid, I know it won’t work. “Which statement do you think will win? The second one, the negative one, because it’s part of a habitual way of looking at life. Negative thinking will always win, because it outweighs the positive and it is usually said with a lot of emotion. Do you want to be relevant and convincing in your next presentation? To get something you never had, you’ll have to do something you never did: pay close attention to your thoughts to eliminate those that create experiences you no longer want.

You can spend astronomical amounts of money on courses, seminars, hard work, without the thoughts and attitudes that come with the result, all your efforts will be in vain. It’s time to let go of the experiences that no longer serve your potential and your dreams.

Decide today to make positive affirmations a part of your English learning, set the stage without preconceptions, and live these phrases as if they were already true.  The secret to making your affirmations work quickly is to set the stage for them to flourish EVERY DAY.

Focus your attention on the result and not on the current reality of things, have fun imagining what you will gain with the result: self-confidence, fun, authentic relationships, credibility, the list is endless, test it and let’s discuss it during your free consultation.

In short, the best technique to learn is to believe that you can. If you’re looking for affirmations or  videos to get inspired, look no further! I regularly post affirmations on my Instagram (@leonildarenaldo), LinkedIn (@Leonilda Renaldo) and Facebook (@leonildavision4language) accounts. Take it one step at a time, one affirmation per week, stick with it, and of course, repeat! Let’s go!
